On November, 27, 2011 I’ve started my blog to celebrate my 13 years as a “balzaquiana”, which means in Portuguese: a single woman over her thirties. This term comes from the book “La Femme de trente ans” written by the French writer Honoré de Balzac and it has been used ironically for years to refer to women who were “not capable” of getting married while they could. Nowadays, many single women over their thirties remain single not because they can’t get married anymore, but because they have chosen it. I’m one of them. The stories here are about the reasons why I’ve made that choice. I started translating them into English because some friends who couldn’t understand them, asked me to. I hope you enjoy the blog.
